When you say "close the position as it gets close to the strike" how much are we expecting to lose as we get closer to the strike?

On spreads I stick to .16 delta or lower depending on the set-up and only sell spreads on stocks I am very familiar with. I'll start by going through my list and checking the charts (Bollinger bands and RSI) for each to see what's promising. Then I'll look at the options chain to see where the volume sits. Then I'll look at the return for spreads below .16 delta and go as far out of the money as I can while getting the return I'll shooting for.
